The old mill house in the valley

Historically compromised by several 1980s developments, this listed mill house needed refurbishing and extending to create open-plan and light filled spaces to counteract the effects of its location at the base of a shady valley. The project included interior, kitchen and bathroom design and the design and landscaping of the garden.

The site proved challenging due to a number of issues; flooding from a millpond in combination with the width of the valley caused us to make the decision to cut the building into the hillside. Keen to make good use of the original materials, we re-purposed stone cut from the site to create extension arches.
