Originally a modest country Mill and house with incongruous 90’s additions, the building had been stripped of it’s character and any references to an industrial past.
Having been acquired by a renowned and talented Interior designer our task was to collaborate and provide a house with a new layout and extended accommodation. Key was the creative design of some statement spaces whilst working within a modest budget.
Our solution comprised of injecting an aesthetic true to a past use. An extended kitchen space with polished concrete floors and a simple but effective fit out extending into the garden with large glazed openings, creating a ‘U’ shaped courtyard.
The circulation was resolved by breaking through the floors with a dramatic contemporary staircase and a new hall with pods for a boot and cloak room.
The house is accessed through a new lean-to porch, again with an contemporary but mill house feel.
Rich colours, simple materials and an inventiveness applied even to the service spaces have resulted in a dramatic but very comfortable and contemporary house.
