Richard Parr Associates Hosts ‘How to Generate an Object’ by Paul Hodgson
All are welcome to join us in our London studio this September to experience How to Generate an Object, a compelling new exhibition from British artist Paul Hodgson in collaboration with Anteroom.
Paul Hodgson’s work, which blends painting, photography, and printmaking, draws from diverse artistic traditions, including post-war figuration, modernist forms, and pop art elements like enlarged Ben Day dots and Colour Field painting. His hybrid practice deconstructs familiar visuals, creating a dialogue between abstraction and figuration within what Hodgson describes as ‘the sculptor’s studio.’
This environment, where ideas are re-examined and recontextualised, reflects the themes of creation, deconstruction, and evolution that are essential to his art. These themes resonate deeply with the principles of architecture, making his work particularly compelling within the context of our practice.

The title of the show comes from the set of ten works on paper, Untitled (How to Generate an Object). The skeletal line drawings are combined with text and rendered in graphite transferred onto the page via home-made ‘carbon paper’. Each of the ten works in this series depict elements from the studio constructions – screens, benches, simple sculptural objects – presenting them as options or propositions in the process of picture making.
The exhibition will feature 19 works, ranging from large-scale canvases to intimate Fuji instant photographs documenting various studio constructions in progress.
At Richard Parr Associates, art is not merely an aesthetic consideration; it is a profound source of inspiration that informs our designs. The synergy between art and architecture enriches our creative process, allowing us to explore the boundaries of space, structure, and human experience. By hosting How to Generate an Object, we aim to celebrate this by offering a platform where the arts and architectural practice intersect to inspire the broader community.
We look forward to welcoming you to our studio for this inspiring and thought-provoking exhibition.
